Ross Anderson

Schneier on Security

It was well before 2001, when we created the Workshop on Economics and Information Security. I know I was at the Fast Software Encryption workshop in December 1993, another conference he created. There I presented the Blowfish encryption algorithm. I can’t remember when I first met Ross.

NIST’s Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards

Schneier on Security

The idea is to standardize on both a public-key encryption and digital signature algorithm that is resistant to quantum computing, well before anyone builds a useful quantum computer. NIST is an old hand at this competitive process, having previously done this with symmetric algorithms (AES in 2001) and hash functions (SHA-3 in 2015).

Encryption: How It Works, Types, and the Quantum Future

eSecurity Planet

Encryption and the development of cryptography have been a cornerstone of IT security for decades and remain critical for data protection against evolving threats. While cryptology is thousands of years old, modern cryptography took off in the 1970s with the help of the Diffie-Hellman-Merkle and RSA encryption algorithms.

Calculating the Benefits of the Advanced Encryption Standard

Schneier on Security

NIST has completed a study -- it was published last year, but I just saw it recently -- calculating the costs and benefits of the Advanced Encryption Standard. And I certainly agree that the benefits of a standardized encryption algorithm that we all trust and use outweigh the cost by orders of magnitude.

What is encryption? And why it matters in a VPN

Malwarebytes

Encryption is a term used to describe the methods that hide the true meaning of messages using code, especially to prevent unauthorized access to the information in the messages. Not all users of virtual private networks (VPN) care about encryption, but many are interested and benefit from strong end-to-end encryption.

Types of Encryption, Methods & Use Cases

eSecurity Planet

Encryption scrambles data to make it unreadable to those without decryption keys. Proper use of encryption preserves secrecy and radically lowers the potential damage of a successful cybersecurity attack. Encryption algorithm types will provide an overview of the mathematical algorithms used to encrypt data (AES, RSA, etc.),

What Is Encryption? Definition, How it Works, & Examples

eSecurity Planet

Encryption uses mathematical algorithms to transform and encode data so that only authorized parties can access it. What Encryption Is and How It Relates to Cryptology The science of cryptography studies codes, how to create them, and how to solve them. How Does Encryption Process Data?
